Carene Groenewald (Hip Hop)Dancing is my life, my passion and something I will do until the edge of death! I started dancing at the age of 3 and have never stopped. My mom knew I was going to become a dancer because while I was still in nappies she would play music and I would lift my hands in the air and turn like a ballerina! I did ballet until High School (Gr. 9) but then stopped because my mom passed away. I felt I couldn’t do it without my mom, but dancing just never let go of me. It was a passion I could not ignore. After school I joined TiCs (Teens in Christ) where I toured around South Africa with dance and drama productions, learning new dance styles. In my 3rd year at TiCs, I began choreographing for TiCs which were performed by the 1st year students in the various productions, and have been doing this now for 9 years. I’ve also choreographed for international and national artists like Pam Thum and Melanie.
In 2005, I compiled the Hip Hop syllabus and completely fell in love with it. In 2008, my friend Laurika and I started CAT out of a dream and an unstoppable passion for dance and also to see others dancer’ dreams come true.
My passion is to see dancers develop and grow in their talent and ability. |
Natalie Ferreira (Pilates)I am a qualified and registered Biokineticist (B.Sc.Hons. Biokinetics). After studying in Potchefstroom and doing my internship in Klerksdorp, I ran my own business for a year. When I first was introduced to pilates, I was a little skeptical as I thought it was just another “exercise fad”, but after studying the technique, I was impressed and decided to give it a try. Although a couple of things felt strange to me, I understood the main principles involved and was soon able to apply them. The ladies around me insisted I teach them what I had learnt and ever since then Pilates has become part of my own exercise programme and I am very keen to share the good news with others! With help from family and friends in the Physio industry, I gained further insights into core stabilisation and spine health that I have applied in the Pilates method. Before pilates all I did for core strength were crunches and isometric exercises for the stomach, but pilates has taken me to a new physical level, not to mention a complete mind-set change! Pilates is tough but I was attracted to the challenge and I am glad it came on my path. |
Tania van Zyl (Nutrition - The Natural Way)I struggled with irritable bowel syndrome, regular urinary tract infections, and severe menstrual cramps with endometriosis and above all infertility. I was introduced to a Natural Way of eating and it changed my way of thinking. I decided to make a few lifestyle changes. My husband, Anton, had to go for training in the US for 6 months, and I accompanied him, from February 2008. He encouraged me to study a 'Natural Health and Nutrition Home study course’, because I couldn’t continue nursing (I completed my nursing degree in '99) on such short notice overseas. We used that season to detoxify our bodies, and giving ourselves the good stuff that God intended from the beginning. Just for fun, my husband agreed to be my first client. We started to eat mainly raw food, and cooked tasty vegan and gluten- free dishes, drank lots of water, exercised daily and enjoyed the sunshine. Within weeks we had much more energy, my irritable bowel; urinary tract infections and menstrual cramps became something of the past. We didn’t even concentrate on weight loss, my goal was rather health, but for the first time in my life, after 6 months I weighed the same as in high school, and my husband lost 18kg. Because we did it naturally, and made lifestyle changes, instead of following a crash diet, our bodies stabilized at our correct weight. My husband also said goodbye to sinusitis, snoring and fatigue. The best news is that I fell pregnant, after battling infertility for years. We are so thankful to God. Some friends asked if we are going to go back to our old way of eating, but how can we consider that, if we feel so good. |
